Real numbers for what a website costs in Sydney in 2025 — what drives the price up, what local agencies charge, and where an offshore team changes the maths.
"How much does a website cost in Sydney?" is the first question almost every business owner asks, and it is the one most agency websites refuse to answer. You fill in a form, wait three days, sit through a discovery call, and only then find out whether the project was ever inside your budget. This guide skips that. Below are the actual numbers we see in the Sydney market in 2025, what pushes a quote up or down, and how the arithmetic changes when part of the team sits offshore.
Two quotes for "a website" can differ by a factor of ten and both be honest. The difference sits in six places.
1. Page count and content depth. A five-page brochure site is a fundamentally different job from a forty-page site with suburb landing pages for Parramatta, Chatswood, Bondi and everywhere in between. Each unique page needs layout, copy, images and internal linking. As a rough guide, past the first eight pages, each additional templated page adds AUD 120–300, and each genuinely custom page adds AUD 400–900.
2. Design: template, customised, or original. A licensed theme configured with your colours and photos is the cheapest path and can look perfectly professional. A fully original design — wireframes, a Figma system, custom illustration or motion — typically adds AUD 2,500–8,000 in Sydney. The honest question is whether your buyers choose on brand or on proof; a commercial plumber usually needs credibility and speed, not an award-winning interaction design.
3. Functionality. This is where budgets actually move. A contact form is included in every quote. Online bookings, member logins, quoting calculators, multi-location inventory, subscription billing or an integration with your CRM each add real engineering time. A Stripe or Square checkout is a day or two. A booking system that respects staff rosters, travel time and deposits is three to six weeks.
4. Content and photography. Most delays and a surprising share of the cost come from content. Professional copywriting in Australia runs AUD 150–400 per page. A half-day photo shoot in Sydney runs AUD 800–2,000. Agencies that quote low almost always assume you are supplying all of it.
5. SEO groundwork. A site that is merely "built" and a site that is built to rank are different products. Schema markup, per-page metadata, an internal linking plan, Core Web Vitals tuning, Search Console setup and Google Business Profile alignment add somewhere between AUD 500 and AUD 2,500 depending on how competitive your category is.
6. Who builds it. The largest single variable is not technical at all. A senior developer in Sydney costs an employer roughly AUD 140,000–170,000 a year once superannuation, payroll tax, leave and desk costs are counted. That is about AUD 95–130 an hour before the agency makes a cent. Every quote you receive is downstream of that number.
Here is what we consistently see quoted across the Sydney market in 2025 by established local agencies.
| Project type | Typical Sydney agency price | Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| One-page site or landing page | AUD 1,500 – 4,000 | 1–2 weeks |
| Small business site (5–10 pages) | AUD 6,000 – 18,000 | 4–8 weeks |
| Corporate site (15–40 pages) | AUD 20,000 – 60,000 | 8–16 weeks |
| E-commerce (Shopify / WooCommerce) | AUD 12,000 – 45,000 | 6–14 weeks |
| Custom web application | AUD 40,000 – 250,000+ | 3–9 months |
Then there is the ongoing cost, which is easy to forget at signing: hosting AUD 20–150 a month, a domain around AUD 20 a year, SSL usually free through Let's Encrypt, maintenance and updates AUD 100–500 a month, and any premium plugin licences on top. Budget 15–20% of the build cost per year to keep a site healthy.
Freelancers on the Sydney market generally sit 30–50% below agency pricing, which is genuinely good value when the freelancer is good and available. The risk is concentration: one person with the flu, a new full-time job, or a better-paying client can stall your project indefinitely.
We are an Indian agency, so read this section with that in mind — but the numbers are checkable.
The reason offshore development is cheaper has nothing to do with quality of code and everything to do with cost of living. A senior Laravel or React developer in Punjab earns a strong local salary at a fraction of the Sydney equivalent. The same person, the same frameworks, the same GitHub workflow — different cost base. That is the entire arbitrage, and it means a AUD 15,000 Sydney project frequently lands between AUD 3,000 and AUD 5,000 offshore without cutting scope.
The honest risks are worth naming too. Time zone is real: Punjab runs four and a half to five and a half hours behind Sydney depending on daylight saving, so you get a solid morning overlap but not a full shared day. Communication quality varies enormously between offshore vendors, and the cheapest bids on freelance marketplaces are usually cheap for a reason. And you cannot walk into the office, which matters more to some businesses than others.
Ways to de-risk it, whoever you hire: insist the code lives in your GitHub organisation from commit one; pay against milestones, never fully up front; ask for a staging URL you can open daily; require a recorded handover; and confirm the domain and hosting accounts are registered in your business's name. Any competent vendor will agree to all five without hesitation. One that resists is telling you something important.
Our Sydney pricing, published so you can compare it against the table above:
